Adding metadata to a collection

A collection has a required title which defaults to collection ID and optional metadata, including a description, credit line, license for public sharing, and a list of key/value pairs and ticker messages. You can add and change these from the command line, or you can Add metadata from a web browser.

Adding key/value pairs

A key/value pair is an arbitrary text name, like 'Pressure' or 'Temperature', and an arbitrary value for that name, such as a number of bit of text. You can have any number of key/value pairs attached to a collection use them to note job parameters, version numbers, run times, or other job state.

Linux & OS X Windows
./seedme.py -update 1234 \
  -keyvalue "outdata:/path/output" \
  -keyvalue "Pressure:10pa" \
  -keyvalue "Temperature:1000K"
seedme.cmd -update 1234 `
  -keyvalue "outdata:\path\output" `
  -keyvalue "Pressure:10pa" `
  -keyvalue "Temperature:1000K"

Above '1234' is the ID of the collection you wish to update.

If a key already exists in the collection, the key's value is updated. Otherwise a new key and value are added to the collection.

Adding ticker messages

Tickers are progress messages that are often posted repeatedly during a long job run and say something like '25% complete!' or some other useful progress message. Ticker messages can be anything you like, but they are limited to 128 characters. The tickers are assigned a timestamp the moment SeedMe web server creates them.

Linux & OS X Windows
./seedme.py -update 1234 -ticker '25% complete'
seedme.cmd -update 1234 -ticker '25% complete'

Above '1234' is the ID of the collection you wish to update.

Updating ticker messages

Tickers can be changed only from the web site not from the command line. See Adding and deleting tickers in a collection using a web browser.

Deleting ticker messages

Tickers cannot be changed or deleted from the command line. You can use the web site to edit or delete them.

Changing the title, description, credit line, or license

Every collection has a title and optional description. If you make your collection public, you also may include a suggested credit line for the project and any license restrictions you choose on sharing the collection's images, videos, and data files. It is usually easier to Add metadata to a collection using a web browser, but you can also change them from the command line.

Linux & OS X Windows
./seedme.py -update 1234 \
-t "New title for my collection" \
-d "This is my collection description" \
  -c "John Doe" \
  -lic "BSD 2-clause license"
seedme.cmd -update 1234 `
-t "New title for my collection" `
-d "This is my collection description" `
  -c "John Doe" `
  -lic "BSD 2-clause license"

Above '1234' is the ID of the collection you wish to update.
